What do guests have to say about staying with us? Here are some reviews from previous guests:

"The Tongariro Crossing Lodge is a far cry from the accommodation I had previously stayed in in National Park while in my 20s and being down for the party weekends and snowboarding. This time with family in tow we wouldn't found the suitable board in a backpackers haha. The character buildings at Tongariro Lodge were awesome. We had two adjoined units, the Whakapapa and Turoa units. Our kids slept in one and we opened the joining door and slept in the other. The heaters provided kept the units warm and cosy. It was freezing in the morning after a very clear night but we never felt the cold in the units. The showers had good pressure (essential after a day at the mountain) and the kitchen facilities in the Turoa suite were great. Marina and Louis were fantastic hosts, friendly and welcoming on arrival, willing to answer any questions we had and also cooked up a wonderful breakfast on our second morning at the lodge. The girls loved Pirate the Cat. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the TCL as a place to stay for anyone we know in the future."

"This is the only place to stay if you are in the area. We had one of the new suites with the Tongariro crossing package. The shuttle bus service was super and the in room breakfast and packed lunch to take with us were excellent. The garden bar for a drink afterwards was much appreciated. Our suite was just about brand new, very well equipped kitchen, fantastic shower and comfortable bed."

"A truly great place to stay! It was spotlessly clean. We were accommodated in the one-bedroom Garden Suites, which opened in May 2025, and it was very pleasant. We stayed here for two nights. Breakfast was even prepared for us each day. There were two bottles of milk, cereal, two yogurt containers, etc. If you wanted more, you could ask the hosts. I would definitely book the lodge again."

"From freshly baked cookies to the utmost friendly hosts - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Clean quaint rooms which were more than comfortable after our hike. We loved the cooked breakfast option and were blown away with the hospitality of the hosts. We will definitely be back."

"Super classy, super clean, really everything you need! Highly recommended!!"

"We loved our stay at Tongariro National Park Marina and Louis recommended hikes to us, their breakfast was the best I had in New Zealand, and the fact that there was a bar was a real bonus. After our hikes, we could relax and enjoy a quiet drink. The cleanliness of the rooms and the entire resort was truly charming. 10/10 thanks again"

"My wife and I spent two nights at Tongariro Crossing Lodge with our granddaughter who was keen to access the snow on Ruapehu. A great location, very comfortable and our hosts/staff were awesome. Delicious breakfast."

"Comfortable suite room with some nice extra touches such as bedside USB charging ports, towel warming/drying rack, etc. Our kitchen (shared with one other suite) was set up just like a kitchen at home might be - everything needed was there and we enjoyed using it. Louis and Marina are very nice hosts, and accommodated a last-minute schedule change in our booking (possible because there was space available on the new dates). Great base location for doing the Tongariro crossing and a choice of restaurants all close by - one of them exceptional. The lodge in general had a cozy and personal feel, would definitely recommend it."

"Lovely large room for 3 of us and a separate kitchen - described only as a kitchenette but had everything we needed, very well equipped. We had a lovely table in our room by the window where we ate our meals. It was a lovely quiet location, and I cannot fault the facilities. The weather was horrible but it didn't spoil our stay. It was all very well heated - heated blankets, heaters, heated towels rails! A free laundry and tumble drier and drying room. Bed was a bit firm for me - but My husband loved it! TV, wifi and a box of games also supplied."

"Lovely place, lovely people. Internet is awesome, free laundry on site, knowledgeable about the area and helpful ringing shuttle for crossing and anything else we needed. Rooms were quaint and homey. This is no impersonal chain. You can't beat a friendly place and genuine hospitality when traveling."

"We had a 2 night stay at the lodge, on arrival we were met by the lovely Marina, very friendly and interested in what our plans were during our stay.
Marina advised us on a short walks in the area and other walks in the park that we might be interested in.
Very happy to book our shuttle and advised us on best time to do the crossing to avoid the crowds.
We stayed in the whakapapa room, ideal for couples. Microwave, fridge and toaster in room, bed very comfy, lovely room.
Accommodation is lovely, old style villa , very homely and relaxing, place to stay.
We had breakfast , continental and full cooked breakfast available, even had fresh blueberries from the local farm . Yum.
Both Marina and her partner Louis were so welcoming and we enjoyed meeting and talking with you each morning over breakfast, you even remembered our names , nice personal touch.
We would definitely stay here again ,if we decide to do another walk.(legs still aching...)
Highly recommended.
Thank you Marina and Louis for making our stay with you so pleasurable."
